Beachcombers

To begin our new topic the children explored the beach and went beachcombing to see what they could find. We looked at the finds and described them and tried to identify them.

Our first day of topic was fun! “We did art all day and no work!” George

Oliver Scott, “I loved to see the rainbow trout because I go fishing with my dad.”

We explored different surfaces, textures, lines and materials to make scales and fish pictures. We looked very closely at a rainbow trout and used it to do Gyotaku – the Japanese art of fish printing.

“I liked to feel the fish scales. It was soft.” Kandice.

Celebrate

To celebrate the end of our Beachcombers topic, Year 1 and 2 have had a lovely time at Teesmouth Field Centre. We have explored different habitats and looked at the animals that live there. We went beachcombing and found lots of different shells. We can now identify a razor, cockle, whelk, periwinkle, limpet and mussel shells. We found out how sand dunes are formed. We also identified different geographical features and used a compass to say what direction they are in. Last of all we made food chains with the animals we learnt about.
