Year 1 & 2
Welcome to Year 1 and 2

Year 1 & Year 2 Class Information
Message from the Class Teacher
In Year 1 and Year 2, we support a smooth and confident transition from Early Years into Key Stage 1. Our classroom is a place where everyone belongs, where teamwork matters, and where children learn to look after one another.
We work hard, show kindness, and treat our friends the way we would want to be treated. Each day brings new discoveries and small adventures, and we approach them with curiosity, courage and a sense of fun.
We are excited for all the wonderful learning ahead of us this year !

NumBots
NumBots: https://numbots.com
NumBots is a child‑friendly maths platform that helps children build strong number sense, confidence and fluency in addition and subtraction. It supports the same concepts taught in class, and each child will receive their own login.
What NumBots Builds
- Understanding what numbers mean (number sense)
- Number bonds (especially to 10 and 20)
- Quick recall of addition and subtraction facts
- Moving from counting on fingers to confident mental strategies
Modes
- Story Mode — children progress through levels using visual models such as tens frames and part‑whole diagrams.
- Challenge Mode — one‑minute fluency games that unlock after Stage 3.
How Parents Can Support
- Aim for 3 minutes a day, 4–5 times a week
- Encourage resilience — children are not expected to pass levels first time
- Use the information (“i”) icon if stuck
- Speak with Mrs McLaren if timing needs adjusting
