   {"id":10280,"date":"2026-03-11T11:34:01","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T11:34:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hartelwickfederation.org.uk\/hart\/?page_id=10280"},"modified":"2026-03-11T11:34:02","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T11:34:02","slug":"our-staged-approach","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.hartelwickfederation.org.uk\/hart\/our-staged-approach\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Staged Approach"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We use a supportive, step\u2011by\u2011step approach that focuses on expectation, monitoring, listening, facilitation, support, formalising support where needed, and\u2014only when all else is exhausted\u2014enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Stage overview<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Culture<\/strong> <strong>(Blue\/Green):<\/strong> 96\u2013100% \u2013 We monitor and celebrate high attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stage 1 (Yellow):<\/strong>&nbsp; 90\u201395% or 5 days\u2019 absence \u2013 School monitoring and a proactive phone call to understand reasons and offer help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stage 2 (Critical):<\/strong> around 10 days\u2019 absence \u2013 Letter sent; opportunity to meet with Attendance Champion to explore and understand barriers; set targets and review and celebrate improvement through a monitoring period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stage 3 (Serious Risk):<\/strong> around 15 days\u2019 absence \u2013 Senior Leader\/Headteacher\/HoS meeting (and LA if applicable); discussion around barriers, what has worked and targets are still needed to secure improvements. It may be appropriate to discuss and implement a parent contract to aid improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stage 4 (Persistent Absence):<\/strong> 19 days in the year \/ &lt;90% \u2013 Child is persistently absent (PA) for the remainder of the academic year; multi\u2011agency support may be explored and involved to aid in securing improvements and school may follow formal processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stage 5 (Severe PA):<\/strong> substantial barrier and risk \u2013 Multi\u2011agency plan (e.g., Early Help\/Family Plan); may consider an Education Supervision Order (ESO) and legal routes if support does not or has not led to improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Across all stages we will listen, work in partnership with parents\/carers, and wherever possible support in the removal of barriers in school, while helping families access wider support (including Early Help) where needed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Support is tailored to the individual circumstances of the pupil and family, including consideration of special educational needs, disability, health and emotional wellbeing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Working Together<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As a school we are committed to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promoting high attendance for all pupils<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acting early when concerns arise<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supporting families with identified barriers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safeguarding every child<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How you can help as a parent\/carer:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure your child attends school every day and on time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicate with school about absence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid term-time holidays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend and meetings and engage with support offered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We use a supportive, step\u2011by\u2011step approach that focuses on expectation, monitoring, listening, facilitation, support, formalising support where needed, and\u2014only when all else is exhausted\u2014enforcement.
