We pride ourselves in giving children the opportunity to participate in as many sporting events and festivals as we can at St. Peter’s Elwick Primary School. Have a look below at some of our achievements and pictures of us participating in lots of different sporting events.

Knowledge organisers for each half term\u2019s unit of learning will be sent as QR codes to parents to support learning at home. These are also available any time from our school office.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Statement for SEND<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

St. Peter\u2019s Elwick C of E Primary School promotes a curriculum that puts all pupils, regardless of their needs, at the heart of what we do. By building mutual respect, we accept others for their differences believing that everyone is special and everyone has something to offer. Our inclusive and enriching curriculum, written for all children, provides pupils with meaningful and aspirational experiences as well as promoting personal growth for life-long learning. When the curriculum needs adapting, to suit the needs of individual children, appropriate modifications are made by the class teacher with support of the SENDCo and the Curriculum Subject Lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Youth Sports Trust<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The school has been externally assessed by a Youth Sports Trust Development Manager and deemed to be Gold Standard. The PE lead and Sports Coach met with the assessor at St. Peters Elwick. Through an interview they were able to demonstrate the schools\u2019 achievements along with the assessor meeting and having a tour of the school and PE achievements by the SSOC crew. This means that the school has obtained the highest level possible for the award and this is valid for two years 2022\u2013 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the Award? <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Youth Sport Trust Quality Mark is online self-review tool which provides schools with a nationally recognised badge of excellence for PE and school sport. The tool supports schools to audit their PE provision and identify priorities for their development plan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tool has been aligned to Ofsted guidance supporting the PE and Sport Premium and comprises a series of statements, where you can select your level of provision in these areas: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though the award is a self-review tool, both schools were then inspected by a Youth Sports Trust Development Manager. It gave the school the chance to show all of the amazing work our schools do from Nursery to Year 6 and show what a fantastic job we are all doing! We are very proud of the staff, children and parents for their dedication and support of our PE curriculum and in achieving the Gold Youth Sports Trust Quality Mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

School Games Mark<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/td>We are delighted to announce that we have achieved ‘Platinum’ status in the School Games Mark by creating positive experiences and opportunities with PE lessons and beyond to support the development of our young people. Sports Coach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We are very lucky in school to have a sports coach, Mr Gibson. We used some of our Sports Premium fund in order to extend our PE provision. Mr Gibson works closely with the teachers to support in lessons and takes our children to sporting events and festivals. He also helps run after school clubs so that we can have a wider range of after school sports in school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SSOC (School Sports Organising Crew)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Each year we appoint an SSOC crew for our school. These children support others within school during lunchtimes to play organised games and activities to support with children’s’ teamwork, physical activity (keeping active for 60min a day) and enjoyment of physical activity. The SSOC actively engage pupils within physical opportunities through their leadership roles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After School Clubs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n


We have a range of after school sports clubs that are available to our pupils including; multi skills, football and dodgeball. More information can be found on our After School Clubs<\/a> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JAPP (Junior Accelerated Performance Programme) <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A select number of children within Y5\/6 access JAPP at our local Senior School. They are chosen for their aptitude for PE and sportsmanship. They have the opportunity to develop their PE skills further by attending termly sporting events at High Tunstall. They also get to work with other JAPP pupils from local primary schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Autumn 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Early Years<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early Years have been busy zooming around on their balance bikes within their lessons this half term. They have been working on changing direction, stopping safely and balancing with control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Year 1 and 2  <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throwing and catching was our PE topic in Autumn One.  We explored a number of different target games, passing and working individually and in groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lessons included throwing, rolling, bouncing, catching, passing underarm and overarm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We include lots of personal challenges within our lessons to help more children with the opportunity to compete and achieve their ‘personal best’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5 and 6 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

These lessons consisted of tagging, different types of passing, speed, agility, attacking, defending, sportsmanship and learning the rules of the game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This give the children to opportunity to learn the skills required to enter the cluster Tag Rugby be tournament.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We include lots of personal challenges within our lessons to help more children with the opportunity to compete and achieve their ‘personal best’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Y5 children also had additional Bikeability sessions. They worked on completing their level 1 and 2 Bikeability which includes on road safety when riding their bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inflatable Football Event<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the Y5\/6 girls had lots of competitive fun today at an Inflatable Football Event, winning four out of five games!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of our Y5\/6 girls took part in a Tag Rugby event today. They had a brilliant time and came 2nd in their group! Well done to everyone who took part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cross Country Cluster<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Girls and boys from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 ran in the Cluster Cross Country event at High Tunstall. We had good results and each child gave a 100% effort.<\/p>\n\n\n

Orienteering<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y3 and 4 have had a wonderful time at Summerhill Country Park. They enjoyed using their geography skills while being active outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trust Inter School Event<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Y3 and 4 children loved attending the Trust Inter School Event. It is always nice getting to complete sporting activities with children from other schools.<\/p>\n\n\n
