At St. Peter\u2019s Elwick Church of England Primary School, we strive to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our RHE Vision<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our vision is for all of our pupils to achieve their full potential physically, socially and academically whilst preparing them for a successful future in a multicultural society regardless of their ability, background or ethnicity and can learn to respect themselves and others, as well as taking responsibility for their own actions. We want our children to develop healthy, nurturing relationships, knowing what a healthy relationship looks like and what makes a good friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curriculum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In our bespoke curriculum, RHE is taught in different subjects and throughout the school day in different areas. A large part of RHE is taught through PSHE, Science and Computing while other objectives are shown through our school routines. For example, Family groups in Early Years focus on RHE objectives such as families being important for children growing up because they can give love, security and stability. Our children also access RHE through restorative chats, leadership teams children are part of in school and access to visitors such as the school nurse and the NSPCC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RHE promotes a curriculum that puts all pupils, regardless of their needs, at the heart of what we do. By building mutual respect, we accept others for their differences believing that everyone is special and everyone has something to offer. Our inclusive and enriching curriculum, written for all children, provides pupils with meaningful and aspirational experiences as well as promoting personal growth for life-long learning. When the curriculum needs adapting, to suit the needs of individual children, appropriate modifications are made by the class teacher with support of the SENDCo and the Curriculum Subject Lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cultural Capital<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cultural capital in RHE is the accumulation of knowledge, behaviours, and skills that a child can draw upon and which demonstrates their cultural awareness, friendship and family knowledge and competence; it is one of the key ingredients that enables our pupils to become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of becoming young adults. Students are provided with opportunities to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. They are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by developing competencies and by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
