Welcome to Year 1 and 2

Message from the class teacher

Welcome to class 2! In this class we enjoy exploring and developing our understanding of the world further. We reach for the stars and celebrate all achievements. We are proud to work as a team and understand that each person is an individual who should be respected.

PE Lessons

Our PE lessons are on a Tuesday and Thursday. However, these days may change to accommodate other events.

Homework

Each week your child will have the following homework: 

  • One piece of English or maths assigned in their homework books. 
  • A reading book to bring back each Thursday. 
  • Spellings which will be tested on a Friday.

Audible Stories – All children’s audio books are available for free while schools are closed

AUTHORFY – Access to masterclasses on texts from a range of authors, including videos from the authors and activities linked to novels

Classroom Secrets – Downloadable resource packs which cover a range of subjects, including reading and writing

The Children’s Poetry Archive – An archive of spoken poetry recordings. Children can listen to poems read out loud

Literacy Shed Plus – Downloadable resource packs with tasks based on video clips on YouTube

THE DAY – A daily newsletter for parents and carers at home with children, helping to enrich learning with real-world knowledge and skills

Pobble365 – A new image is published each day as a basis for creative writing. Story starters, questions and drawing ideas are provided

 

Maths

Hamilton – Downloadable resource packs with teacher guidance. A week’s worth of resources are provided for each year group

Maths Zone – Maths games to play online

Mathematics Mastery – Downloadable guidance and resource packs for parents and pupils

NRICH – A range of activities. Some are interactive and some are to be completed offline. Activities are categorised by age range

CBeebies Help your child with Maths – Videos for numeracy development designed for children ages 0-6. There are fun activities that can be applied to everyday life and play

Topmarks – A range of interactive maths games categorised by age group

White Rose Maths – Presentations and downloadable workbooks which are easy to use for parents. New material is being released each week

 

Science 

BBC Bitesize – Interactive resources covering the primary science curriculum

STEM Learning – An online resource bank, which links to resources on external websites. The site features a live chat function offering support from subject experts. New home learning resources are being developed

 

PE

Change4life – 10 minute activities based on Disney Films that count towards a child’s 60 active minutes a day

BBC Teach Super Movers – Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 – Videos which help children move while they learn. They support curriculum subjects, including maths and English
