Welcome to Early Years

Welcome to Early Years

‘To give all the opportunity to be the best they can be and have fullness of life.’

A message from the class teacher:

In Hart Early Years, we ensure our children develop a broad range of skills and knowledge which provide the right foundation for outstanding future progress throughout school and life. Our children are at the centre of all of our teaching and learning approaches. As a result of this our provision is set up to ensure it matches the needs of all of our children whilst encouraging independence and positive relationships through deepening the child’s thinking and providing daily challenge. We provide a safe, stimulating and happy environment for the children to develop in confidence and where they are able to feel valued as individuals and as part of the Hart family. We have daily ‘family group’ time where the children are split into smaller groups and share their feelings and daily news with their family group. Through family group the children learn to speak confidently in front of others and describe their feelings and experiences whilst developing their vocabulary skills and articulation.

We seek to provide:

o Quality and consistency, so that every child makes good progress and no child gets left behind.

o A secure foundation through learning and development opportunities which are planned around the needs and interests of each child and are assessed and reviewed regularly.

o Partnership working between practitioners and parents.

o Equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice, ensuring that every child is included and supported.

We believe that all children bring with them deep curiosity and potential, are competent and capable thinkers and learners as well as creative communicators and conversationalists. We believe in a child who has a fundamental right to ‘realise and expand their potential’. This is a child who is driven by curiosity and imagination, a capable, strong child who delights in taking responsibility for his or her own learning, a child who listens and is listened to, a child with an enormous need to love and to be loved, a child who is valued.

PE Lessons

Our PE lessons are on Tuesday and Thursday. However, these days may change to accommodate other events. Reception children are asked to bring their P.E Kit into school on a Monday and it will be returned on a Friday. Nursery children are asked to come to school wearing their P.E Kit on these days.

Homework

Each week, your child will be given the following homework:

o A reading book- Reception will bring home a Little Wandle reading book matched to their current phonics teaching. Both Nursery and Reception will have access to Little Wandle books online through https://ops.collinsopenpage.com/sso/login?service=https%3A//ebooks.collinsopenpage.com/wr/index.html&eulogin=true.

o One piece of either maths or phonics related homework to be given out on a Friday and returned by the Thursday the following week. This will be sent out in our homework books.

o ‘Me, My Family, My World’ Entries - Each child will receive a Me, Myself, My World book. The purpose of this book is for you to share ‘out of school experiences’ with us. We would love to see and hear about your adventures at home and would love your child to talk to us about them. You may choose to do this by adding photographs, bus/train tickets, drawings and explanations. This book will stimulate great discussions and allow staff to share your child’s interests. Staff will look at these books with the children across the week in family group time.

o Story Sacks- Your child will also bring home a story sack to share once every two weeks. Within the story sack will be a range of activities to complete with your child and a fiction and non-fiction story and rhyme linking to the topic of the sack.
